Goals – Are You Ready, Willing and Able?

Goal Setting | 0 comments

How many goals did you set yourself at the start of the year? Or should the question be: how many goals set at the start of the year have stuck with?

How many goals did you set yourself at the start of the year?

By now, the question may be better put like this: how many goals did you set yourself at the start of the year…that you have stuck with?

Most people at this time of year have set off with all good intention to improve themselves in some way. Yet many of the aims we have seem to fall by the wayside very early on.

Why is this?

The goals we set at the start of the year are always freely made, yet something just doesn’t quite stick. Perhaps the deeper motivation isn’t really there or goals are declared to the world at a time we are caught up with festive cheer and life simply takes over when we get back to everyday life.

Setting a goal is not the main thing. It’s deciding how you will go about achieving it…and staying with that plan.

Maybe the old habits are simply so strong we slip back into ‘automatic’ behaviour before we have had the chance to affect the changes we desired.

Whatever the reason, if you’re finding it difficult to maintain your New Year’s goals, ask yourself these three simple questions:

Are you READY?

  • Are you in the right frame of mind to start the changes needed?
  • Are you emotionally equipped at this time?

Are you WILLING?

  • Are you prepared to do what it takes to ditch the old for the new?
  • What is your motivation to make these changes at this time?

Are you ABLE?

  • Do you have the necessary skills and resources to maintain the changes?
  • Do you have the level of competence needed?

If you answered ‘yes’ to all these questions, then I doubt you are having too much difficulty progressing towards your goals.

However, if like most people you are finding it hard to keep on track, then maybe this is something you’d like to explore further.

If so, get in touch to find out how this simple framework can help you and your team.
