3 Ways To Build Your Self Esteem

Self-esteem is a fragile thing, even for really successful people.

It is often dependent on job status or material wealth.

Of course, in this life of constant change self-esteem can be easily affected by forces beyond our immediate control and this can have a damaging effect on our confidence.

If you find yourself in this place, take these three steps to rebuild your self-esteem.

1. Responsibility

Possibly the most fundamental step in building self-esteem is to open up your eyes to the reality of life and to accept what is, in reality, quite a daunting challenge – taking responsibility for yourself.

The truth is, although you can’t always change what life throws at you, you can choose how to respond!

Get a grip on your own direction in life and stop drifting aimlessly in a sea of unpredictable currents.

2. Curiosity

Taking responsibility will lead to a curiosity about your limits, testing and challenging your comfort zones to see that your potential is phenomenal.

Become curious about the boundaries you really have. Question and push the limits of your own self-imposed comfort zone.

A word about comfort zones. Comfort zones are like open prisons. They set the limits and constrain our choices. If you never break out of them, you will never know what you are truly capable of.

But comfort zones are just that – comfortable. It can take great courage to move out from them.

In her list of five truths about fear, Susan Jeffers (1987) said that: “The fear will never go away as long as I grow.”

Set your aim beyond the current level of comfort, then find your ability to grow is dramatically enhanced!

3. Energy

Then, lift your energy levels.

Seek out your passions, take exercise and live an active life.

When all three of these steps are combined, you have a formula for action and without that then nothing will be achieved.

Call to Action:

Take a look at these questions and jot down your answers:

  • What are you truly capable of?
  • What are your current comfort zones?
  • What limits do they place on you?
  • What can you possibly do to break free from these?
  • What can you do today to lift your energy levels?
  • What support do you require and from where will you seek it?

Build your self-esteem by living in a world of possibility and never allowing yourself or others to hold you back.
